External Customer Survey
The definition of ‘quality’ begins with customer expectations
and ends with customer satisfaction. Therefore, any quality program
must focus the organization on the customer’s perception
of how well you are doing in terms of customer focus.
This diagnostic assessment involves wide-ranging, open-ended interviews
with selected customers. Interviews are conducted by telephone
for convenience, ease of administration, and to reduce cost. Customers
to be interviewed are selected in consultation with management.
The survey is designed to result in measuring not just ‘how
satisfied’ customers are, but also identifying specific examples
of ‘why’ customers may be dissatisfied with specific
aspects of the organization.

Cultural Audit
A Cultural Audit is a survey of a company that identifies its
values, beliefs, perceptions and behaviors. It defines what issues
the agency
or company considers important. If a strategic plan defines where
a company wants to go, organizational culture determines the methods
and avenues used to get there. Every agency has an organizational
culture, simply because it is made up of people. Unfortunately,
few administrators or CEO’s are aware of the culture, thus
its evolution is an unplanned process. A Cultural Audit establishes
a baseline of information concerning the beliefs, values and perception your
employees have about the company or agency, and its policies and
their leader.
Cultural Audits are a critical piece when developing a strategic
plan, quality initiative or a diversity plan.
Change Management
It seems that nobody really likes change. Variety is fine, but
real, honest-to-goodness change is something else. Today’s
companies and government agencies face the challenge of implementing
large projects that involve change. New software packages, corporate
restructuring, and downsizing efforts, all bring with them unique
skill set needs for administrators and managers.
Action Management Corporation has over twenty years of hands-on
practical experience in working along side executives and managers
as they move their company forward. By designing a customized approach
that is tailored around an agency’s mission and corporate
culture, we can assist with a smooth transition of large projects.
AMC consultants will fully analyze the internal and external variables
that influence a project. Our customized strategy will incorporate
a comprehensive communication component designed around the stage your
employees will experience during change.
Recent Projects
U.S. ARMY
AMC was requested to conduct a complete assessment of the management
capabilities of the Anniston, Alabama Army Depot. The Depot
has
approximately 4,800 on-site personnel and encompasses 256 square
miles. The AMC assessment team spent two weeks on site conducting
interviews, developing and initiating a survey. Our assessment
team had complete access to base personnel and worked with the
base commander.
The objective of this contract was to perform a management assessment
of the Anniston, Alabama Army Repair Depot. Specific areas of attention
were:
- Efficient use of manpower within cost centers
- Work schedules, overtime use, management policies, union rates
- Qualifications and competence of managers relative to their
position
- Adequacy of review programs and over-all budget management
- Leadership issues, span of control and productivity of key
personnel
DETROIT MEDICAL CENTER
Action Management Corporation was hired to provide rapid process
improvement interventions to actively support DMC operation recovery.
Our efforts were spread across six separate hospitals and involved
(8) eight specific interventions. Some examples are:
Human Resources – Short Term Disability This intervention
was designed to assess the current process capabilities of the Short
Term Disability (STD) program and work with the Department manager
to develop a Process Improvement Plan. The teams worked cross functionally
and cross organizationally (Third Party Payers) to access the STD
systems six core processes and identify improvements. This plan
includes 11 simple improvement action items, which will help provide
better service, reduce costs and capture an estimated $75,000 in
lost revenues from non-payment of Premium Participation from staff
on STD Intensive Care Unit – Improvement Project (Sinai-Grace). This project involved forming and facilitating a cross-functional
team to reduce the time required to get patients into ICU beds.
This project had significant implications to patient care as well
as wasted resources due to lack of departmental coordination of
work processes. Improvements included:
- Use of AMI transport team to move patients from ED to ICU
- Proactive focus on ICU patient turnover
- Additional ICU beds
These changes caused a 65% cycle time reduction from over
six hours to less than two hours. Potential to further
reduce cycle time and reduce wasted resources is still available
by reducing duplicated diagnostic testing (ED and then ICU). This
will be pursued as a Phase II improvement.
