The 2007 Society for Human
Resource Management Conference and Exposition is
now in the history books. Sue
Meisinger, SHRM president and CEO, and Janet
Parker, SHRM chair, challenged the 22,000
attendees to spread the word about lessons
learned at the conference: what happens in Vegas
should not stay in Vegas.
“It’s SHRM” (the re-branding
of the organization) and “Enterprising HR” (HR
with an attitude) were two themes throughout the
event.
Lance Armstrong,
in the opening general session, recalled his
struggle with and triumph over cancer. He also
shared how he was able to win 7 Tour de France
championships. And at an invitation-only
session, David Ulrich presented six “must-have”
competency domains in order for HR professionals
to be successful. These new competencies are
based on his research involving 10,000
participants.
And no conference in
Las
Vegas would be complete
without him: Elvis did
appear, and Elvis has left the building.
